This year, we will be hearing from Tim Perrin, Director of Energy Management, VGS, Chris Cochran - Director and Jeff Dube - Planning and Project Manager, Community Planning & Revitalization Division, VT Dept of Housing and Community Development along with our DRM legislative specialist, Andrew Brewer. Tickets include admission and food. A cash bar will also be available. We look forward to seeing you all there!

    Take your construction knowledge to the next level with Vermont Construction Academy’s Building Science and Building Systems Training.Learn how energy moves through buildings, how control layers function, and how building envelope performance impacts mechanical system design.

    Module One: 1 hour

    • Basic Building Science Fundamentals
    • How energy moves through buildings – Convection/Conduction/Radiation
    • Discuss how these three mechanisms affect different building components and overall exchange of heat energy within buildings
    • How to control energy transfer in buildings

    Module Two: 4 hours

    • Control Layers – Water/Air/Thermal/Vapor
    • Breakdown of each of the 4 critical control layers in all building assemblies
    • Detail on functional requirements of each layer and what material options are best used for each control layer
    • Wall, roof, fenestration, and foundation details to ensure proper alignment and control at each layer

    Module Three: 3 hours

    • Building mechanical systems
    • Detailed discussion on how building envelope performance affects and defines heating/cooling system design and performance
    • Fundamentals on proper mechanical system sizing and design: low-temperature distribution and right-sizing of equipment
    • Equipment applications: fossil fuel and cold-climate heat pump system design
    • Mechanical ventilation: fundamentals of sizing, design, and installation.
    • Equipment options for whole-house mechanical ventilation
